November 2014 - Marnie Toback

201411MarnieTobackA New York transplant, Marnie was born and raised in New City, NY. After her marriage to Jonathan, she moved to New Jersey (Pompton Lakes and then Wayne), where her children, Brandon and Abigail, started school.  Marnie received a BS in Communication Sciences and Disorders from SUNY Buffalo and earned a Masters in Speech Language Pathology from the University of South Florida. She has worked as a contract speech language pathologist for the same rehabilitation company for 10 years. She works with adults in the medical field/aspect of speech pathology and helps rehabilitate those who suffer from strokes, diseases/disorders, head and neck cancers, dementia and brain injuries. Besides treating patients, she also supervises and trains other speech pathologists in the company. Not busy enough? She also teaches two speech language pathology courses at William Paterson University to both graduate and under graduate students.

In her spare time, she creates baby name gifts and custom picture frames for any occasion. Marnie relaxes by reading, which she says "is both an escape and an obsession. I spend way too much time reading and should really get more sleep instead".

What brought the Toback family to Shomrei Torah? Marnie explains that she and her husband decided to join Shomrei Torah because of the sense of family community here. "We were able to identify with Rabbi Mark and he made us feel comfortable. He is a constant educational and learning source."

She also feels that it is important "to show her children that being Jewish is an identity and part of who we are. It is something that they should be proud of and pass on to future generations."

Given this busy woman's schedule, we are so grateful that Marnie finds time to volunteer at Shomrei Torah and is an asset to our community.
