Summary |
Daniel is definitely a hometown boy, born in Wayne to founding members of Shomrei Torah, Dr. Seymour and Elaine Schlossberg. Dan received his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from SUNY Binghamton and his law degree from Hofstra University.
An avid student and instructor of Karate, he holds a 2nd degree Black Belt. In his spare time, Dan plays the violin. He is a fan of the author David Weber. As Dan says, "His books weave an intricate and interesting story."
Dan credits the example of Julia Child as a major influence on his life. As he explains, "She took on a new challenge later in her life and not only embraced it, but never stopped learning and improving." This admiration has extended to all facets of his life, first by his love of cooking, and, by extension, his love of following the food culture of the various countries in which he has traveled, including Israel, Spain, France and Rome. He loves cooking for himself and others and is always open to new foods. Shomrei Torah has benefited from Dan's culinary enthusiasm...he cooks and helps out at our synagogue whenever he can.
Dan shared what being Jewish means to him and also in a larger context. On a personal level, he feels that being Jewish is "a connection to his family and to the previous generations, and our traditions are what connect us, while looking back and by going forward in life." He also feels that the state of Israel is an important place for all Jews as a connection to our past and our history and also as a refuge for all times.
Thank you Dan for all you do as a part of the Shomrei Torah community.
