Summary |
Zachary, 16 years old, a junior at Wayne Hills High School, takes advanced placement biology and history, plays the saxophone in jazz band and the marching band and finds time to run spring track and engage in pole vaulting. Sounds as if this would be more than enough to take up the time of this active young man. However, there is more. Zachary is a Sunday morning volunteer in our Hebrew school, assisting the teachers and those students who require help. He has worked on the Purim Carnival and, since his Bar Mitzvah, you have probably heard him reading Torah on Rosh Hashana.
As a member of the National Honor Society, he is an active participant in the food drive and, after Hurricane Sandy, aided in serving fifty meals to the needy on Thanksgiving. "He who has fed strangers may have fed angels."
Thinking about college, his interest is business. He says he wants to stay close to home but, with a smile, adds not too close.
Responding to the question, "What are your responsibilities as a Jew?" he notes that they are deeply personal and that the meaning of being Jewish is about the traditions, especially around the holidays and being together with family.
Zachary describes himself as hardworking and determined, but also understanding and cooperative. As we examine Zachary's good deeds, we note that in addition to how he views himself, we see him as compassionate, bright, kind and humble. For sure he is a fine example to his peers, who will view him as a busy individual who finds the time to be generous and to help others. We are proud of him and his accomplishments and look forward to learning of his future successes.
