April 2012 - Perry Wolkowitz
For the last 25 years, Perry Wolkowitz and his wife Cindy have been members of Congregation Shomrei Torah. They felt that Shomrei Torah met their religious needs and they felt very comfortable with all the new people they met. Their children, David, 30 and Rachel, 26, celebrated their Bar and Bat Mitzvah here.
During these years, Perry has been involved in the Shul, holding numerous positions, including: Treasurer, twice; Education Chair, where he was instrumental in hiring a new Hebrew School Principal; a member of the Executive Board; a Men's Club member, working on the Purim Carnival, and as he expresses it, "director of prize distribution" (in charge of prizes). Presently, he has the job of Financial Chair and recently worked on the Shul budget, for which he is well prepared; he is the comptroller for the company for which he is employed.
Would you believe that this quiet man is a football referee all over North Jersey? In order to keep in shape, because who wants an overweight referee, he does yoga and exercises in a gym.
Cindy and Perry, who have been married for 35 years, enjoy traveling. They have visited Honduras, Guatemala, Australia, a road trip through northern Sweden and visits to our National Parks. The near future will find them cruising the Caribbean. Perry says that on top of his bucket list is a trip to Israel. Both David and Rachel have gone on Birthright during their college years.
Perry's occupation, as well as what he does for the Shul, is all about money. He believes that money in the pocket means peace in the house. He works to keep the money in the coffers of Shomrei Torah and this surely provides us, the congregants, with peace of mind.
Thank you Perry.
