March 2011 - Carla Rudow
Shomrei Torah is proud to announce Carla Rudow as the Volunteer of the Month for March, 2010. Carla grew up in Bergen County, NJ. Her family belonged to Temple Beth Tikvah in New Milford, where her father was very involved, serving as House Chair for many years and ultimately President.
Carla married Victor 23 years ago and they lived on Long Island. They moved to Wayne seventeen years ago, becaming members of Shomrei Torah in 2004. Victor works for FiServ as Director of Network Engineering and Carla is the Director of Camp Veritans. Carla and Victor’s three boys, Jared (a senior at Wayne Hills), Andrew (a junior at Wayne Hills) and Eric (a fifth grader at Terhune) grew up with Shomrei as part of their lives. Carla grew up in a traditional Jewish home where they welcomed Shabbat each week and celebrated all the holidays. Carla felt it was important to raise her family in the same manner and have the synagogue be an integral part of their lives. Before she became a member, Carla specifically remembers coming to Shomrei Torah when saying Kaddish for her father. She was very impressed that the service was led by our youth and was sure that she wanted that caliber of Jewish education for her children.
As a teenager, Carla was active in the USY through her synagogue. She feels what she gained most from the USY experience was finding Jewish friends, some of whom she still keeps in touch with today. Carla shared her memories of USY with her children and encouraged Andrew to go on USY Pilgrimage this past summer. Andrew visited Poland and Israel and he would be happy to tell you that he had an unbelievable experience and can’t wait to go back.
Carla has been involved with Camp Veritans for seven years, three as Assistant Director and the past four as Director. Although this job takes up much of her time, Carla is always eager to help out at Shomrei Torah. She is an active member of the Youth Committee and the PTO and is always first to volunteer to help out in any way she can. Her passion for making Shomrei Torah a comfortable and enjoyable place for our children naturally guides her to her successes on these committees. Our PTO and Youth Committees are both active and vibrant with the energy, ideas and enthusiasm that Carla brings to the table. We are very lucky to have her as part of our community and thank her for her commitment to our synagogue and our children.
