January 2011 - Bennett Wasserstrum

201101BennettShomrei Torah is so fortunate to have many volunteers that give their time and energy to our congregation.  January’s Volunteer of the Month is Bennett Wasserstrum. Bennett has worked very hard as the chair of the Personnel Committee. This has been an especially challenging and important position this year as the Personnel Committee was responsible for making a recommendation as to whether to enter into negotiations for a new contract with Rabbi Mark. Bennett handled this task with grace, respect and fostered cooperation among the committee members.

Bennett and Monique lived in Clifton before moving to Wayne 31 years ago. They have been married for 32 years and have been members of Shomrei Torah for 28 years. Bennett and Monique are the proud parents of Alyssa and Jessica. Their daughters were educated at Shomrei Torah and they celebrated their Bat Mitzvah’s at our shul. Alyssa is an attorney and is married to Brian. Jessica is a para-legal and is married to Jason. Jessica and Jason have a son, Shawn, which makes Bennett and Monique very proud grandparents. Bennett is an attorney practicing general law for the past 37 years and Monique is a school psychologist. When Bennett and Monique are not working they like to travel. Bennett also enjoys gardening.

This is not the first time Bennett has given his time to Shomrei Torah. He has previously chaired Personnel and was part of the negotiating committee. He has chaired the Education committee, was Executive VP and has helped rewrite the shul’s constitution twice. We thank Bennett for all the time he has given to Shomrei Torah currently and in the past. We will continue to grow and thrive as a community because we have wonderful volunteers like Bennett Wasserstrum! Thank you so much Bennett!
