October 2022 - Tamara Emont

This month’s Volunteer of the Month is Tamara Emont who grew up in Northern Virginia attending a Conservative syn-agogue from a very early age where she and her family were very involved. Tamara was a teacher’s assistant, member of USY where she had leadership roles, attending their conventions, and also went on the USY pilgrimage. Additionally, she also was a counselor at both day and sleep-a-way Jewish camps.

Tamara graduated from SUNY at Oneonta with a Bachelor of Science in Business Economics and Apparel and Textiles. She also attended the Fashion Institute of Technology where she received an Associate Degree in Fashion Merchandising.

After working in the apparel industry for many years she made a switch! She enrolled at Montclair State University where she received a Master’s in Elementary Teacher & Students with Disabilities. Teaching had always been a passion of hers because when she was much young she had always interacted with children at Hebrew School and in camps.

She is currently a teacher in Englewood, having been there for seven years, teaching unique learners in both first and second grades.

Tamara is married to Daniel and the mother of Sarah and Rachel. Daniel and Tamara have lived in Wayne for approximately seven years. Being a part of the Jewish community is important to her family, and hopes that through their active participation in Shomrei Torah, her daughters will also find it important to be active and in-volved when they get older.
