Year 2
We are all proud of Shomrei Torah. It has been a second home to its congregants for thirty-six years. Our members reflect the full range of our diverse Jewish population, and this variety of backgrounds, interests, perspectives and experience enriches our synagogue life. While our diversity is a source of strength for our shul, it also creates certain challenges, since each of us possesses a unique set of needs and expectations which we expect our synagogue to satisfy. Shomrei Torah does its best to fulfill all of these needs by offering something for everyone, be it religious, educational, social or community based.
While we clearly have much to be proud of, there is always room for improvement. In that spirit, Shomrei Torah applied for and received a three-year Strategic Planning grant from the Synagogue Leadership Initiative of the UJA Federation of Northern New Jersey, and funded by the Henry & Marilyn Taub Foundation. The purpose of this Strategic Plan is to continue to strive towards the excellence we seek.
From September 2008 through June 2009, twenty-six congregants volunteered their time and worked diligently to try to identify Shomrei Torah’s mission, vision, core values, strengths and weaknesses. Our findings, conclusions and recommendations are contained in this Strategic Plan. The Plan focuses on what we believe are the five most critical issues facing our shul. For each of these issues, we explain why it is of utmost importance and why it merits prioritized attention. We then lay out goals for each issue and corresponding action steps that will help us to reach those goals. We are pleased to note that none of the recommended action steps will entail a significant financial outlay. Any expenses involved in implementing the Plan will be minimal.
We hope you will join us in implementing the Strategic Plan so that we may overcome our challenges and face the future as a stronger, healthier synagogue.
