Services

Shomrei Torah is an egalitarian Conservative congregation, which provides religious observance for every occasion and a wide variety of services to accommodate your every need. In addition to a daily minyan, which gives people a daily spiritual boost and affords mourners the opportunity to say Kaddish, there are Shabbat services (Friday evenings and Saturday mornings) and services in celebration of every Jewish Holiday. If you wish to host a Friday night Oneg Shabbat (dessert reception) or a Shabbat morning Kiddush (luncheon), please contact the synagogue office. No special occasion is needed. However, this is an especially meaningful way to commemorate a milestone in your life (anniversary, special birthday, graduation, retirement or in memory of a loved one) and share your simcha with the synagogue family. The second Friday of each month is our anniversary Shabbat, celebrate your special day with special blessings, songs and desserts!

Early Family Service: 7PM on the first Friday of each month (during the school year):
We offer a family service specifically geared toward children of all ages. Traditional prayers are interspersed with songs and stories, special birthday blessings, and hands-on child participation, followed by an Oneg Shabbat (dessert reception) replete with cupcakes and other goodies. This is a wonderful opportunity for young families to come together.

Junior Congregation services: These are designed to afford our children the opportunity to participate in and lead an abbreviated Shabbat Service geared to their level. It is the ideal vehicle to prepare the child for his/her Bar/Bat Mitzvah and is a necessary part of his/her Jewish education. All students, from third grade on, must attend a minimum of 10 Shabbat morning services and 3 Kabbalat Shabbat (Friday night) services at Shomrei Torah during the school year. Students may also join the Rabbi's Chai Club (and Double Chai!), earning credit and attending other services here at Shomrei Torah or with another congregation. Parents are strongly urged to attend services at the same time as their son/daughter regardless of whether the child is in Junior Congregation or in the main sanctuary.

Junior Congregation begins promptly at 10:30 with an hour-long service and is followed by a 15 minute Kiddush. Though students are encouraged to remain for the entire session, they can leave at 11:30 when the service concludes and before the Kiddush starts only if and when a parent comes to class requesting an early dismissal. Please give us that full hour for the benefit of your children.
