Dear Shomrei Torah Member,
It's been said that there are only 2 things you can depend on in life: death and taxes. Well, as we all know, there's a third: the High Holiday Appeal (including President's Council / Shomrei Or)
I'm sure that many of you wonder why we need the High Holiday Appeal at all. After all, we pay dues, we attend fundraising events and we give miscellaneous contributions from time to time. The simple and honest answer is that while these items certainly help support our synagogue, these funds aren't enough to meet our fixed expenses. And while we'd all like to dispense with the High Holiday Appeal, we really can't, as the budget we approved at our Congregational meeting last spring, calls for us to raise $76,000 or approximately 15% of our operating budget from donations &/or fundraisers.
Every donation is important - no matter what the size and we have a category of giving and a method of payment to make your personal budget fit our communal budget. As in years past, there are different categories for different giving levels. However, this year, we'll have only a single category for those that donate below the "President's Council level" of $1200. In addition, if you wish to donate anonymously, simply indicate that on the enclosed form. As in the past, names listed by donor category titles (not amounts) will appear in our lobby starting in mid-September. Names will also appear in L'Chaim and on our website.
On behalf of the Executive Board and the Board of Trustees, I wish a happy and healthy New Year to all. We have successfully achieved our goals the last three years. Let's once again fill our Tzedakah Boxes to the brim and this year, achieve 100% participation!
