These are designed to afford our children the opportunity to participate in and lead an abbreviated Shabbat Service geared to their level. It is the ideal vehicle to prepare the child for his/her Bar/Bat Mitzvah and is a necessary part of his/her Jewish education. All students, from third grade on, must attend a minimum of 10 Shabbat morning services and 3 Kabbalat Shabbat (Friday night) services at Shomrei Torah during the school year. Students may also join the Rabbi's Chai Club (and Double Chai!), earning credit and attending other services here at Shomrei Torah or with another congregation. Parents are strongly urged to attend services at the same time as their son/daughter regardless of whether the child is in Junior Congregation or in the main sanctuary.
Junior Congregation begins promptly at 10:45 with an hour-long service and is followed by a 15 minute Kiddush. Though students are encouraged to remain for the entire session, they can leave at 11:30 when the service concludes and before the Kiddush starts only if and when a parent comes to class requesting an early dismissal. Please give us that full hour for the benefit of your children.
