Celebrating tradition, embracing the future

Welcome!

We are Shomrei Torah, the Wayne Conservative Congregation, which was founded in 1973 to serve the Greater Wayne Jewish community. From our humble beginnings, when services were held in a one room building, to our present facility with its jewel-like sanctuary, Shomrei Torah has grown and continues to evolve. Shomrei Torah is affiliated with the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism and is an egalitarian congregation - both men and women contribute to our vitality in equal measure. We are a synagogue that is open to and welcoming of interfaith families and we provide opportunities for everyone to become involved in congregational life. While our outlook is progressive, our atmosphere is clearly "haimishe" (down to Earth). From the moment a member of our family welcomes you and you are honored at our New Member Shabbat, you will realize that Shomrei Torah is not merely a destination for fulfilling religious pursuits, but is also your second home.

Shomrei Torah Annual Gala

Honoring

Stuart Skolnick

Every year the Executive Board has the privilege to choose our Gala Honoree. This year we will be acknowledging a man who has devoted so much of his time volunteering at Shomrei Torah. This man is Stuart Skolnick.

Stuart has served as our Ritual Committee Chair for 6 years. As the chair, one of his responsibilities is planning the details for every holiday. He is also in charge of making sure there are ritual ushers helping at every bar and bat mitzvah. These ushers get everyone up to the bima in time for their honor or aliyah. Without a ritual usher, or Stuart's efforts, the service would not run as smoothly.

For many years, Stuart was responsible for making sure all the teens were prepared for their High Holiday Torah reading, and making sure they learned the special trope.

Stuart frequently leads davening, with his inspiring and beautiful voice, on Shabbat morning and Friday Night Live (our instrumental Kabbalat Shabbat). He reads Torah, chants Haftarah, writes D'vrei Torah, steps in for the Rabbi in July when Rabbi Mark is on vacation, and does all of this from his heart.

Stuart is a kind and caring man who lovingly explains, teaches and helps so many of us understand and connect to our traditions. Stuart's calm and even temperament makes working with him in any capacity a joy and a privilege! We are truly blessed to have Stuart and his family as a part of our Shomrei Torah family.

It is for these reasons, and many more that Stuart Skolnick is our Gala Honoree on March 3rd. Please, save the date and support Stuart and Shomrei Torah at our upcoming Gala. Mazel tov to Stuart Skolnick.
